Reflection on SE forum ^^

Hi all! Hope it's not too late to pen down my thoughts on the social entrepreneurship forum that we attended last Wednesday!

Recalling the topics that was discussed about during the forum really reignite my passion all over again. It was so inspiring, especially so when they shared about their start-up stories. It made me realize that you don't need to be rich to start a SE and also, you don't necessary need any inspiring stories to start off with. All the speakers brought up really great points; about how all business should all my social enterprises, giving back to the community in the first place and how SEs are already started up before this term (Social enterprise) even comes into place.

There is this speaker whom i really admire and she's none other than, Ms Kuik Shiao Yin (: I admire her genuineness and honesty when it comes to answering those questions asked by Justin, which i felt, connected really well with many of us in the forum. Not forgetting all other speaker whom really inspired me alot with their words of wisdoms as well as achievements (:

Till then.

  1. Hi Kiahgek,

I agree with you that the talk let me actually realise that we do not need to be rich to start one. But I was surprised when Ms Shiao Yin mentioned that she started the SE with her friends because of fun! It may not be a great story to start the SE, but I believed that it really helped a lot of people.

Thank you for sharing, it really allow me to reflect what I have seen that day as well.

  2. Hello once again!

This forum is definitely inspiring with the good speakers whom started various SEs.
For me, Ms Leona Leong inspired me the most with her powerful answers, reflections on life, challenges Aii has faced and many others.

She told us that she considers the obstacles in her life (including setting up social enterprise) as milestones, which are stepping stones towards success. She emphasize that positivity works wonders and challenges are all around us. We can't stop the challenges from coming, neither can we ignore them. However, we can overcome them one by one and learn from it. This would then bring us to success through all the stepping stones in our life.
She also mentioned that she is publishing a book about her life, and I think I would most definitely purchase it! She is a very inspiring social entrepreneur!

    Regards,

    Xinyi

  3. Hello KG!

I agree with you, i found Ms Kiuk's achievements and frankness especially inspiring. I loved it when she was expressing her distate towards the term social enterprise/social entrepreneur. I have long thought that all businesses should be SEs its just...normal? I don't know, haha! I found the story of how she started School of Thought very exceptional. She's really brave to go out, take chances and create changes. I think that that boldness is something I lack and would love to have.

That Saturday she was one of the speakers at the TedxYouthSG conference and shared her story in greater detail. She was a shy child since birth and never really made many decisions all her life because her parents did that for her. After knowing a little more about her background, it made the leap of faith she took even more impressive. I think she's a brilliant example of someone who is ambitious, courageous and yet down to earth; an example that many ought to follow.
